My Client The Millionaire

Willard C. Bunney....yeah, thats right. The guy in the picture above was assigned a Public Defender after he was charged with exposing himself and committing a lewd act at the Oslo Conservation Area in the 300 block of Ninth Street Southeast (I'm assuming this is somewhere in Florida).

The problem? Mr. Bunney has over 4.2 Million dollars in assets. Nice huh? Well, now he is being charged with another crime: Making a false statement to officals.

Bunney appeared before County Judge David Morgan on Wednesday and posted a $500 bond on the charge of making a false statement to officials. Bunney pleaded not guilty to the offense, a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Bunney's attorney, Charles A. Sullivan Jr., called the situation "a misunderstanding.."

Sullivan said Bunney might have been confused by a questionnaire he filled in when he applied for indigent status.

"It's like if you go into Wal-Mart and mistakenly put something in your pocket, but you go back in and say, 'I made a mistake," Sullivan said. "There was no intent to commit a crime."

Yeah, I'm going to have to remember that one...we actually get a lot of theft cases from Wal-Mart. The, Oopsy, I put all those cans of baby formula in my pocket accidentally explanation should really work out nicely...the perfect defense!

I love Florida.

A client who lied on their application? SHOCKER!

As much as people talk shit about public defenders, I'm always surprised by the number of people who will lie to get one.

I know this man although I have not seen him for 15 years. By the photo, I am convinced he is suffering from Alzheimers. Would explain this bizarre situation. I am positive he would not have been in this situation if he were in his right mind.
